What bold new insights do I have to to contribute to your understanding of Steps Eight and Nine?
Maybe only to remind you that there is a way out of feeling chronically disconnected, alone, angry, or disturbed in any other way: working the Steps. And for me, the most important fact in all the Steps is that when we become willing to take action to help disempower our innate compromised thinking, we can experience relief. After all, how do we work any of the steps? First we consent to God’s will for our lives by becoming willing; only then can we create the time and space to take action. My experience has shown me that my mere willingness to participate in my healing is a point of departure for a new way of life. In other words, I’ve found that the major reason that many of us get stuck on Steps Two through Twelve is incomplete working of the First Step, a Step grounded in honesty. So if Step Eight seems to be a challenge, my suggestion is to return to Step One and begin again. I’ll discuss all of this more fully when we get together on Saturday, March 12.
